Iran latest: G7 leaders gather as US-Iran peace deal takes center stage
The G7 Summit is underway. President Donald Trump and the leaders of six other nations are meeting in France, and the effects of the peace deal between the United States and Iran will be one of the top items on the agenda.
During the summit, Trump is expected to discuss removing the mines from the Strait of Hormuz, a task that both Britain and France have expressed an interest in aiding. Fear of the mines that may remain is still an obstacle for commercial traffic passing through the waterway.
Representatives from Egypt, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates are expected to join the meetings on Tuesday. While the three nations are not part of the G7, they are joining a session on Middle Eastern issues, including Iran.

The summit, which began Monday, comes just days before the expected signing ceremony for the peace agreement, which is set to take place on Friday in neighboring Switzerland.
Here’s the latest:
War powers resolution fails in Senate
10:22 p.m. ET: The latest effort to advance a war powers resolution in the Senate fell short of the majority needed to pass once again on Tuesday. It was the latest in a nearly weekly attempt to rein in the Trump administration, even with a peace deal on the table and ready to be signed.
Republican and Democratic senators have criticized the agreement and been frustrated by the White House not releasing many details about what is in it. While they expect to be briefed on the pact, nothing has been scheduled before Friday, when the agreement is supposed to be ratified.
Iran says peace deal requires Israeli withdrawal
9:47 p.m. ET: The full details of the peace deal have not been released yet, but Iran's Foreign Minister is saying that Israel remaining in southern Lebanon would violate the agreement.
"Without the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the territories they occupied during this war, the war has not fully come to an end," Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said.
A U.S. official who spoke anonymously to the Associated Press said an Israeli withdrawal is not in the agreement. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Lebanon "as long as necessary."
Vance praises Trump, vows Iran will not have a nuclear weapon
6:40 a.m. ET: Vice President JD Vance praised President Donald Trump in a video released on social media platform, X.
Vance said Trump's policy toward Iran would make sure Tehran will never be able to obtain a nuclear weapon.
"The president has been clear from day one: Iran will never have a nuclear weapon," Vance said in the post on X.
