Delta flight bound for Florida diverted over smell: FAA

A Delta Air Lines flight that was headed to Florida was diverted over the weekend due to a smell, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

What we know:

On Feb. 1, Delta Air Lines Flight 2090 departed from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York. 

The Airbus A321 was headed to Orlando International Airport (MCO) in Florida but was diverted after the crew "reported smelling fumes," a spokesperson for the FAA said in a statement to FOX 35 News.

The plane landed safely at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) in North Carolina around 1:15 p.m. 

What we don't know:

Additional details about the smell have not been released, but the FAA stated that it is investigating.

The aircraft has since completed successful flights from JFK to MCO, according to FlightAware.com, which tracks flights in real-time.
