Cold temperatures arrive in Central Florida
ORLANDO, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - People across Central Florida are bundling up this morning, as temperatures have dropped to the 30s and 40s.
While there will be lots of sunshine today, highs will only make it to the mid to upper 50s. Expect another cold night though, with lows in the mid to upper 30s. Patchy frost can also be expected.
Items like fire pits and space heaters are selling quick at retailers. But, if you're looking to get toasty, the National Fire Protection Association is reminding folks that these items do present potential fire hazards. In fact, heating equipment is the second leading cause of U.S. home fires.
More than half of all home heating fire deaths result from fires that began when heating equipment was too close to things that can burn. So, if you are using a space heater, keep them away from things like furniture, clothing, and bedding. It's also advised that you do not place these items on stop of carpets or throw towels on top of them.
Fortunately, fire pits and space heaters won't be needed for long in Central Florida. Temperatures will warm up as we approach the weekend, with much of Central Florida back in the 80s by Sunday.
