Orange County, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - The all-clear has been given at UCF. An alert went out to students around midnight Saturday. Students were warned to stay indoors and to stay away from windows and doors.
The rumor on campus was that there was an active shooter. UCF Police later clarified the warning saying, there was no shooter but that someone was seen going into the Tower 1 dorm with a gun in his waistband.
Campus police made contact with that individual and determined the person had a BB gun and that there was no threat to the campus.
UCF Police Chief Carl Metzger says that student will not be charged but could face disciplinary action from the university because BB guns are not allowed on campus.
After the scene was cleared the chief apologized for the panic and stress the initial vague warning caused.
