Suspect uses heroin during car chase away from Marion County deputies

The Marion County Sheriff's Office posted on Facebook that that one of their Property Crimes Detectives located a felony warrant subject, identified as John Quincey Stephens, at his family member's home on Terrace Road.

The post says that when Stephens saw the detective, he fled on foot and then stole his family member's vehicle.

A deputy was reportedly able to find the stolen vehicle and initiate a pursuit. The deputy was led on a lengthy chase that went back to the suspect's family member's home.

Deputies say that Stephens bailed from the car. Two K-9s were able to apprehend him after a short foot pursuit.

According to the post, Stephens later told deputies that he was "taking a shot" of heroin during the car chase and that he was sorry for what he did because he was high on drugs. Heroin was found in the car he was driving.

Stephens was reportedly transported to a local hospital for his injuries as well as a dog bite. Afterwards, he was transported to the Marion County Jail.

Deputies say that Stephens has been charged with Fleeing and Eluding LEO with Lights and Sirens Active, Resisting without Violence, Possession of Heroin, and Driving While License Suspended or Revoked. He was also charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Grand Theft Auto and Resisting an Officer without Violence for an incident that occurred earlier this month.

Stephens remains in the Marion County Jail on no bond.
