Video appears to show fight outside Pulse Memorial, prompting police investigation

Officials with the Orlando Police Department are investigating an incident that occurred near the Pulse Memorial on Saturday afternoon.

Police were dispatched out to the area on South Orange Avenue and Esther Street just after 4:15 p.m.

Orlando police have not yet clarified what the incident was or who it involved. Video obtained by FOX 35 appears to show a confrontation between two individuals, before one is kicked while on the ground.

The victim told FOX 35 that the altercation was over Pride Flags. "He rips the flag from my hand, he starts punching me," the person said. "As I get up from the ground, he kicks me in the face to kick me down again. The entire time he's out shouting slurs and telling me I should die."

Detectives were later seen taking photos of the flags before removing them from the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.

The site had been subject to protests at a nearby crosswalk in August after the Florida Department of Transportation issued new rules and guidelines regarding crosswalks and intersections. Several crosswalks in Florida were later painted over in black and white including the rainbow memorial crosswalk near Pulse, the checkered crosswalk near Daytona International Speedway and the "Back the Blue" mural in Tampa.
