Man facing life in prison for kidnapping, killing woman

A man already set to spend the rest of his life in prison has been convicted of killing a woman in northeast Florida.

A Duval County jury found 29-year-old Kenneth Lee Thompson guilty Thursday of first-degree murder and kidnapping with a weapon. The Florida Times-Union reports that prosecutors weren't seeking the death penalty, which means Thompson faces a mandatory life sentence.

Thompson is already serving another life sentence for an armed robbery that occurred a week before 20-year-old Michelle Lee McCoy was abducted outside a Jacksonville bar in January 2011. Her burned and mutilated body was found a month later.

Thompson and his uncle, 52-year-old Larry Wayne Thompson, were both suspects in the slaying. The uncle killed himself during police standoff shortly after McCoy's body was found.
