Major changes coming to Maitland Boulevard

A traffic shift of westbound Maitland Boulevard (State Road 414) between westbound Interstate 4 and State Road 434 is now pushed ahead to early next week. The contractor needs more time to coordinate the shift, as well as coordinating with local agencies, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.

When the shift does occur next week, motorists should expect multiple lane closures during overnight hours, as the westbound lanes of Maitland Boulevard are shifted to newly paved lanes, just south of the existing lanes. Prior notification of the new timetable for the shift will be given in advance.

Following the traffic shift, work will begin on building an elevated Maitland Boulevard over the cross streets of Lake Destiny Road, Keller Road and Maitland Summit Boulevard. Pile driving for bridge construction could begin as soon as early October.

Modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving through the work zone.

The I-4 Ultimate project is rebuilding 21 miles of Interstate 4 (I-4) from west of Kirkman Road in Orange County to east of State Road 434 in Seminole County, adding two new dynamic tolled Express Lanes in each direction, replacing more than 140 bridges, reconfiguring 15 major interchanges and reconstructing the entire roadway.

*The change in schedule will not affect the media briefing, which is still a go today from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., near the location of the planned traffic shift. Please contact Jessica Ottaviano at 386-479-6369 for details.
