Florida man arrested after lurking at children's bus stop: deputies

Deputies said they arrested a Florida man Friday after he was caught creeping at a children's bus stop.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office has identified the man as 37-year-old Jonathan Louis, who is a registered sex offender.

Reports show Louis is being charged with violation of probation for failure to register and loitering by sex offender within 300-feet of children.

Louis currently is booked in the Polk County Jail, sheriffs stated.

The backstory:

Records show Louis has been a registered sex offender since a conviction in 2004 in Lake County for lewd and lascivious battery of a teenager.

After his release from jail in December 2024, deputies said Louis failed to notify his parole officer where he was residing.

What we know:

Sheriffs said a witness reported noticing a man standing among small children at a school bus stop around 8:25 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17. The witness told deputies they felt that there was "just something not quite right about him."

The Polk County Sheriff's Office made contact with the man, who they then identified as Louis, reports show.

Deputies said they learned Louis lived near the bus stop, but he had no children who went to school.

Louis was unable to provide deputies with a reason why he was hanging out at a school bus stop, officials stated.
