Florida man stops home from being robbed while watching security video from Ohio

BUNNELL, Fla. (FOX 35 ORLANDO) - A Flagler man was able to stop his home from being burglarized while he was out of state with a little help from technology.

Flagler County Sheriff's deputies responded to a home on Oleander Drive in Bunnell on Tuesday after getting a call from the homeowner, Larry Mills. According to a press release, Mills told deputies that he was watching his home being robbed live from Ohio via security camera on the inside and outside of his home.

Deputies found a 15-year-old suspect and a 17-year-old suspect walking nearby. Officials said the juveniles matched the description that Mills had provided to them as well as still images that were captured on the security cameras. 

When the boys were questioned, deputies said that they were riding their bikes nearby when they decided to enter the home through a bathroom window. 

“This is a great example of how modern technology can be used to immediately report a crime in progress,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “Mr. Mills took his home security into his own hands and thanks to his security system and the quick response from our deputies these juveniles were quickly arrested and processed at the Green Roof Inn.”

Both teens have been charged with felony burglary of an unoccupied dwelling.
