Five systems being monitored as Hurricane Jerry forms in the Atlantic

The National Hurricane Center is currently monitoring five systems, including the newly-formed Hurricane Jerry.

As of 11:00 a.m., Jerry has maximum sustained winds of 75 mph, making it a Category 1 hurricane. The storm is located about 490 miles east of the Leeward Islands. Jerry is moving west-northwest at 16 mph.

Jerry's core is expected to pass north of the Leeward Islands but tropical-storm-force winds and locally heavy rainfall are possible in the area.

The storm will be steered clear of the  Bahamas and Florida.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Humberto is expected to weaken into a powerful extratropical cyclone later on Thursday, according to the National Hurricane Center. The system is located about 415 miles northeast of Bermuda, packing maximum sustained winds of 110 mph. 

Large swells and dangerous surf will continue along the coast of Bermuda and much of the east coast of the U.S.

Swells will continue to affect the northwestern Bahamas and the Southeastern coast of the United States from east-central Florida to North Carolina through Friday and Saturday. Expect life-threatening surf and rip current conditions at our beaches.

A tropical wave located about 1000 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands is producing disorganized cloudiness and showers. The system has a 30 percent chance of developing over the next 5 days.

Another system being monitored is an elongated area of low pressure associated with a tropical wave
is located just south of the Dominican Republic. NHC gives it a 10 percent chance of forming over the next 48 hours and a 10 percent chance over the next 5 days.

Tropical Depression Imelda continues to hammer Texas with significant and life threatening flash flooding.
