Daytona Beach Police are searching for two men accused of shooting and robbing a woman outside her apartment on Monday night.

Suspects stole $3,000 from victim, police say

What we know:

Daytona Beach Police are searching for two men accused of shooting, pistol-whipping, and robbing a woman outside her apartment around 6:30 p.m. on Monday.

The suspects, wearing ski masks, emerged from behind the apartment building and confronted the victim and her companion.

The woman ran, but the suspects chased the victim and shot her near her car before stealing $3,000 from her purse. The suspects then fled in a blue hatchback-style SUV, possibly a Nissan Murano or Nissan Rogue.

The victim was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

What we don't know:

Police have not yet identified the suspects or determined if the attack was targeted or random. It remains unclear whether surveillance footage from the apartment complex or nearby cameras captured the incident.

Authorities have also not disclosed whether they have any leads on the suspects' whereabouts or if the stolen money was linked to any specific transaction.

The backstory:

The incident took place outside an apartment complex in Daytona Beach, where residents say they have not previously seen much crime, but it has led to calls for increased safety measures. Witnesses say the attack was sudden, with the suspects ambushing the victim before violently assaulting her.

Police have not revealed if the victim knew her attackers or if this was part of a larger crime pattern in the area.

What they're saying:

Neighbor Jake Gipson emphasized the need for better security after learning of the incident.

"Anything can happen at any given hour," said Gibson. "I think it comes down to having a better control of the area itself and protecting the area."

Reflecting on the attack, he said he had never really seen anything like this in the area.

"I’ve been here for two and a half years, haven’t really seen too much crime," he added.

Gipson also urged the community to "step up" and take an active role in safety.

"Make sure the security of it is up to the utmost responsibility," he said.
