Authorities continue to investigate school threats

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Increased patrols watch over Orange County students, as deputies say they wish to speak to 23-year-old Jesus Kong.  He is a person of interest, after threats were made through social media to Edgewater, Colonial, Boone high schools and Liberty Middle School.

But those aren't the only places of concern.  Erin Sullivan, Orange County Library System PR Administrator says, "We'll absolutely be keeping an eye out."

At the public library in Downtown Orlando, they recognized Kong's face.  He has been kicked out six different times between 2012 and 2014.  One time, police even broke out the mace.

"There was once incident where he was outside the library on the loading dock. A police officer approached him and he became violent and the police officer had to arrest him and trespass him."

Deputies say Kong made threats to shoot up and bomb the schools, but the FBI says they don't believe the threats are credible.  They say Kong doesn't live in  Florida now, but they'll keep looking for him.

Court records show Kong has a history of mental illness.  Deputies say he also has had run ins with officers in California, Virginia and Maryland.  Meanwhile, at the schools and the library, authorities are watching.

"We are aware of this individual. We're going to make sure if he does enter the library that we once again have him arrested and trespassed."

The threats made an impact on attendance today.  At Boone High School 357 students were absent from school today, compared to 64 absentees this time last year.  At Edgewater High 174 were absent, compared to 46 last year.  And Liberty Middle had 379 kids absent, compared to 18 last year.
