1 hospitalized after house fire in Eatonville

The state fire marshal is investigating after a fire broke out at a home in Eatonville Tuesday evening, sending one man to the hospital.

Orange County and Maitland firefighters were called to People Street at around 6 p.m.

“Maitland units were the first units that arrived on scene and they found heavy involvement in the rear structure of the building,” said Orange Co. Fire Battalion Chief Juan Atan. “Reports came in that there was a possible victim inside the structure.”

Crews fought the fire inside the house to get to the man.

“Time is of the essence for us. We got in there. Did what were trained to do,” Atan said.

Officials say the victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition. They say he’s dealing with burns and smoke inhalation.

Residents of the home tell the News Station that about six adults rent rooms in the home and several people were there when the fire broke out.The cause is still unclear.

Fire crews on scene helped displaced residents get in touch with the Red Cross.
