1 arrest, more to come as cops crack down on ATV gangs
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Orlando Police have arrested a man they say was part of a swarm of dirt bikers that hit a patrol car and say more arrests are expected.
The arrest comes as authorities are cracking down on groups of ATV riders who have hit a sheriff's deputy and assaulted a pregnant woman and her husband after a fender-bender in recent weeks.
Orange County Sheriff John Mina said police agencies throughout central Florida met this week to plan tactics for discouraging the groups of all-terrain-vehicle and motorcycle riders.
The Orlando Sentinel reports the riders run red lights, pop wheelies and weave in and out of traffic. It's illegal to ride ATVs on public roads.
