Winston earns NFC Offensive Player of the Week
TAMPA (FOX 13) - Jameis Winston has picked up his first player of the week honor. The NFL announced this morning that the Bucs' quarterback was the top NFC offensive player for Week 1.
Winston completed 23 of 33 passes (69.7 pct.) for 281 yards, with four touchdowns and a passer rating of 122.6 in a 31-24 victory at Atlanta. His four touchdown passes are the second-most in an opening game in franchise history, while his passer rating is the third-highest and his 281 passing yards are the fourth-highest.
It was the second time in Winston's career he has thrown for at least four touchdown passes. In just 17 career games, he has become one of only four Buccaneers quarterbacks to have multiple games with four or more touchdowns, joining Brad Johnson (four such games in 49 games played), Steve DeBerg (two such games in 64 games played) and Doug Williams (two such games in 67 games played).
Winston is currently tied for the NFL lead with four touchdown passes, the first time a Buccaneers quarterback has held or tied for the NFL lead in passing touchdowns since Brad Johnson in Week 12 of 2003.
