Shooting turns into standoff after man shoots his sister

A man is dead after a shooting turned into a standoff in Winter Springs last night, according to the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say that they got a call around 7:20 p.m. in reference to a woman who ran to a neighbor for help. She was reportedly shot by her brother multiple times, but was able to escape. The brother was still at home with his mother. They both refused to come out.

The sheriff's office says that they even brought a crisis negotiator out, who tried for five hours to get the son and mother to come out of the house.

Deputies say that at 1:20 a.m., the man took his own life. The mother got out safely and was taken to the hospital. The sister was also transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is currently in stable condition.

Fox 35 reporter Dana Jay was on scene this morning and said that deputies were there for at least 12 hours.
