Seminole commissioner to resign, cites health

Seminole County Commissioner Carlton Henley on Wednesday announced will resign from his position, effective August 1.  The Longwood resident cited health reasons and advisement from his physician and family.

“While I am proud of the many accomplishments of the Board throughout my career, I am especially proud of the confidence of our people," he said in a statement. "It has been my honor to represent the citizens of Seminole County for more than 20 years.”

Henley sent a letter of resignation to Governor Rick Scott this week. He is not seeking reelection; therefore, the seat will be filled for a four-year term on November 6.

“On behalf of my colleagues, the Seminole County Board of County Commissioners is thankful for Carlton’s years of service and leadership on this board and in our community,” stated Seminole County Chairman John Horan. “It has been an enormous privilege to work with this remarkable colleague who has led Seminole County through twenty years of transformation and growth. We are grateful for his many accomplishments and wish him and his family the very best.”

Henley was elected to the Seminole County district four seat in 1998.  Prior to his election, he served Lyman High School as their principal for 31 years. He is a former teacher and coach.
