LA police chase: 3 taken into custody following pursuit of assault, robbery suspects
LAPD pursuit of carjacking suspect ends in Sun Valley
Three people were taken into custody following a high-speed pursuit through the San Fernando Valley on Friday morning.
LOS ANGELES - Three suspects were taken into custody following a high-speed police chase through Los Angeles County, primarily in the San Fernando Valley, on Friday morning.
Officials with the Los Angeles Police Department said it all began in the 15800 block of Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades. A woman told officers she was assaulted, robbed and carjacked by a large group of people.
Some of the suspects left the scene in a Nissan while others left in the vehicle that was carjacked.
Records indicate the Nissan was a rental that was never returned to the rental company. When officers spotted that vehicle, a pursuit was initiated on the 405 Freeway at Sunset Boulevard around 8:45 a.m.
Later that morning, aerial images from SkyFOX showed the driver of the Nissan was traveling at speeds of over 100 mph on the 101 and 170 freeways.
The suspect led authorities in a pursuit through the San Fernando Valley in neighborhoods that include Sherman Oaks, Studio City, North Hollywood, Valley Glen, and Sun Valley.
Officials initially believed there were two people inside the vehicle.
By 9 a.m., the suspect had reached speeds of nearly 130 mph on the 170 Freeway.
The suspect then got back onto the southbound 101 Freeway as he was seen weaving in and out of traffic.
Just before 9:10 a.m., the pursuit continued in Hollywood where the suspect was met by morning rush hour traffic at the intersection of N. Cahuenga Boulevard and Franklin Avenue.
A short time later, the suspect got back onto the 101 Freeway in the Hollywood Hills and led authorities back to the Valley.
What happened next was bizarre.
The suspect hit a trash can in a Sun Valley neighborhood, turned around, and moments later, the pursuit came to an end. The suspect stopped at an apartment building at the intersection of Runnymede Street and Lankershim Boulevard where he, along with two others, casually got out of the vehicle.
