SYDNEY, NEW SOUTH WALES - Staff at Wild Life Sydney Zoo have announced the debut in a public enclosure of the zoo's new addition – Kalina the koala joey.
According to the zoo, the female koala joey was born last November. She spent her first six months in her mother's pouch and, since then, has been back and forth as she's been familiarizing herself with her surroundings, and her half-siblings, Kora and Buddy.
Now, the zoo said, Kalina, who still only weights 970 grams, is ready to graduate to the public Koala Rooftop viewing exhibit.
The arrival of Kalina marks another successful year of koala breeding, the zoo said, and will help to further educate the public about the need to protect the koala, which is currently listed as vulnerable in the wild.
