Four children killed during 21-hour standoff laid to rest

ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Four children were remembered in Downtown Orlando on Saturday.

Friend and family of Ciara Lopez' four children - Irayan, Lillia, Aiden, and Dove - said their final goodbyes.

On the night of June 10, Orlando police says Lopez' boyfriend, Gary Lindsey, Jr., shot the children and himself during a 21-hour standoff.

The family's lawyer, Walter Benenati of the Benenati Law Firm, said Saturday's funeral seemed unreal.

"To me, I think that realization hasn't set in, yet," Benenati said. "They were able to see them yesterday [Friday] in a viewing. It was open caskets, a moment where they could see them one last time. Certainly it helps, but the grief's not going to go away."

After the service, family members thanked the community for their support.

"Thank you from the bottom of our hearts," said Alberto Lopez, the children's grandfather.

"Thank you,” grandmother Liza Pluth said, “for keeping us in your prayers."

Many people attended Saturday's funeral service for the children, including Orlando Police Chief John Mina.

"Any service, memorial service like this, is certainly tragic, especially when some are taken at such a young age," Mina said. "And it's heartbreaking to see, obviously, a small casket we know has an infant inside. So, it's heartbreaking, yes."

Investigators say Lindsey also shot Officer Kevin Valencia, who was critically wounded.

Police say Valencia is breathing on his own, but has a long recovery ahead.
