Florida Supreme Court disbars medical marijuana lawyer

The Florida Supreme Court is disbarring a lawyer who told clients medical marijuana was legal and issued "Official Legal Certification" cards more than two years before voters approved marijuana for medical use.

The Thursday ruling said some of Ian Christensen's clients were arrested and others lost their jobs because of his bad advice.

Christensen formed Health Law Services before voters approved medical marijuana in 2016. The court said Christensen referred clients to a doctor who would determine if marijuana was medically necessary. Christensen would issue identification cards saying a doctor prescribed its use. He also issued "grow signs" and told clients it would was legal for them to grow marijuana.

But not only was medical marijuana illegal, the doctor that clients paid $799 to see wasn't licensed in Florida.

A message left for Christensen wasn't immediately returned.
