Florida snow forecast: Record snow totals expected as winter system moves across state
ORLANDO, Fla. - Portions of Florida were under a rare winter storm warning with multiple inches of snow projected to fall on Tuesday night through Wednesday morning.
Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency for the state of Florida on Monday ahead of the major winter storm that is sweeping across the southeast, which is expected to bring frigid temperatures to parts of Florida, as well as the potential for snow, ice, sleet, and/or freezing rain.

Will it snow in Florida?
What we know:
As a storm system in the Gulf of Mexico moves eastbound and encounters Arctic air, snow will overspread parts of the Florida Panhandle.
To be clear, snow is not forecast to fall in Orlando or Central Florida. Snow will mainly fall across Florida’s Panhandle, stretching east to around Jacksonville. The farther east you are, the more likely you’ll see sleet and freezing rain, which will reduce snowfall amounts.

How much snow will fall in Florida?
The far western Florida Panhandle is where the highest snowfall totals are projected to fall. Some areas have already seen snow totals exceed previous records, which could cause serious travel issues.

In the Florida Panhandle, accumulations of four to nine inches were possible. In the northern parts of the state, snow totals will be around one to two inches due to mixed precipitation. This happens because warmer air above the ground allows that snow to mix with and change over to freezing rain and sleet. For snow to fall without mixing, the entire atmosphere needs to stay below freezing (32°F).

What we don't know:
The snow continues to fall over parts of the Panhandle, so totals are still being tabulated. What is also unclear is where exactly the freeze line will settle over the Florida Peninsula.
The FOX 35 Storm Team is eying a zone from Ocala to Palm Coast, but snow flurries may show up in the Orlando area by late morning as the rain moves off the coast.
