Officials say a Florida panther has died at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens.

The zoo posted on Facebook Thursday that the decision was made to euthanize Babs after a sudden decline in health. The post says Babs had been battling health issues and receiving treatments for kidney failure over the past year.

Zoo officials say Babs and her sister, Kakki , were brought to the zoo as kittens in 2005 after their mother abandoned them. State biologists had rescued them from a den in the Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge east of Naples.

The post says Babs had been battling health issues and receiving treatments for kidney failure over the past year.
