Extra security on campus as students return to Ocala high school

OCALA, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - Students returning to class this Monday at Forest High School in Ocala will notice extra security on campus, after a student was shot there on Friday.

Deputies say that more deputies will be at every school throughout the county, not just Forest High School.

On Friday, a 19-year-old Sky Bouche went into this old high school with a sawed-off shotgun and hid it in his guitar case. He shot and struck a student on the other side of a classroom door. The student was shot in the ankle and is expected to be okay.

Bouche said that he did not want to kill anyone. Deputies say that he did it to strike fear into the students.

Deputies are also praising the quick response time from the school resource officer, Jim Long, who was able to take Bouche into custody just minutes after he opened fire.

The Marion County Commissioner said that they plan to approve funding to hire more student resource officers like him by May 1st.

Bouche is charged with terrorism, aggravated assault with a firearm, culpable negligence, carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a firearm on school property and multiple other gun charges.
