Double homicide suspect who shot Florida deputy, killed in shootout with SWAT: officials

A man who shot a Florida deputy after allegedly killing two people during a gas station robbery, was killed in a shootout with SWAT officers Friday morning, authorities said. 

What we know:

A search began for the suspect after he robbed a Mobil gas station in Quincy, shooting four people – two of whom were killed, according to the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office. 

His vehicle was later spotted more than 310 miles away in Columbia County, Florida. A chase by Florida Highway Patrol and Columbia and Suwannee county sheriff's offices led to the suspect crashing. 

The Gadsden County Sheriff's Office shared a photo of the suspect and his vehicle on social media Friday morning. 

Suwannee County deputy shot

Officials said the suspect opened fire on law enforcement, hitting a Suwannee County deputy. The deputy's body armor reduced the impact, and the deputy sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

A massive manhunt, involving multiple agencies including the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), was launched after the suspect ran off from the scene. 

Neighbors in the area of US 90W, east of 129th Road and north of US 90, were urged to shelter in place.

What they're saying:

Shortly before 9 a.m., the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office announced in an update on social media that the suspect had been killed after an exchange of gunfire with SWAT. Additional details about where he was found were not released. 

What we don't know:

Authorities did not immediately identify the suspect accused in the deadly robbery and deputy shooting. 

The condition of the robbery victims who survived has not been revealed.
