Delay in removing shrimp boat from Florida beach
ORMOND BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - The U.S. Coast Guard says a shrimp boat that got stuck on shore at Ormond Beach, must undergo an environmental assessment before it can be moved.
A contractor will review how to safely remove ship, without causing environmental damage. The Coast Guard will also review if the ship was up to code. It remains unclear how the ship ran aground.
"Everyone on board was ok. We do not know what was wrong with the boat," said Capt. Tamra Malphurs with Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue.
Officials say it is made out of steel, so it won't break apart, unlike a wooden ship.
