Record-high 79% of Americans consider immigration good for the country, poll finds

Americans’ stances on immigration are becoming more positive, with a majority acknowledging that it's good for the nation.
The findings are from a new Gallup poll that surveyed 1,402 Americans between June 2-26 and centered on where the public stands on immigration in the U.S.
Record-high 79% of Americans say immigration is good for the U.S.

When respondents in the Gallup poll were asked if immigration is generally a good thing or bad thing for the country, a record-high 79% of Americans call it a good thing compared to a record-low 17% who view it as a bad thing.

The poll also noted that Democrats’ belief that immigration is beneficial to the nation is also up, to a record-high 91%.
Fewer Americans want immigration reduced

The Gallup poll shows that the number of Americans who believe immigration should be reduced fell to 30%. Meanwhile, 38% of respondents admit they want immigration to stay at its current level, while 26% say it should be increased. And the desire for less immigration has also changed among political parties, with this sentiment from Republicans at 48%, independents at 30%, and Democrats at 16%.
Pathways to citizenship for immigrants favored by Americans
Local perspective:
Americans are now supporting offering undocumented immigrants pathways to citizenship, while fewer respondents say they favor strict measures to discourage or reverse illegal immigration.
According to the poll, support for raising the number of Border Patrol agents is at 59%, while backing for the U.S.-Mexico border wall is only at 45%.

Moreover, support is also dropping for deporting all undocumented immigrants, with 38% of Americans now favoring this as the administration is attempting it, while support for allowing undocumented immigrants to become U.S. citizens increased to 78%.
More than half of Americans disapprove of Trump’s management of immigration
Big picture view:
Gallup noted that 62% of Americans disapprove, including 45% strongly, of President Donald Trump’s efforts on immigration, compared to 35% who approve of his handling of the issue, including 21% who strongly approve.
Approximately 85% of Republicans approve of the president’s management of immigration, compared with 28% of independents and only 2% of Democrats. According to the poll, 81% of Democrats strongly disapprove, compared to 59% of Republicans strongly approve. Independents are much more likely to strongly disapprove (45%) than to strongly approve (14%).
