Hurricane Florence becomes first major hurricane of 2018 Atlantic hurricane season
MIAMI, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - Hurricane Florence now the first major hurricane of the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season. Florence continues to get a little stronger as it moves over the open Atlantic.
In their 5 a.m. advisory, the National Hurricane Center says that Florence is temporarily moving towards the west-northwest at 10 miles per hour. A turn toward the west-northwest is expected later on Wednesday. This general motion is expected to continue with Florence's forward speed, decreasing by the weekend.
They went on to say that maximum sustained winds are near 120 miles per hour with higher gusts. A gradual weakening trend is forecasted to begin Wednesday night and continue through Friday. After that, Florence is forecasted to restrengthen through the weekend.
There are no reported coastal watches or warnings in effect at this time.
