Obama to attend Rays-Cuba game in Havana on March 22

President Barack Obama plans to attend the Tampa Bay Rays' exhibition game in Cuba on March 22. Ben Rhodes, deputy national security adviser for strategic communications and speechwriting, tweeted the news Tuesday after Major League Baseball and the players' association announced arrangements had been finalized for the game against the Cuban National Team in Havana.

Astros, Nationals break ground on new spring training ballpark

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — The Washington Nationals and Houston Astros are getting a new home in Florida for spring training. Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred was in attendance Monday at a ground-breaking ceremony for the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches. The teams are expected to begin training and play spring training games at the $144 million facility in 2017.

Good news for sluggers: Lower wall at Marlins Park in 2016

MIAMI (AP) — The Miami Marlins have decided to alter their outfield wall and give hitters a better chance in their spacious ballpark. The Marlins still want a park that favors pitchers, team president David Samson said Tuesday. But the wall will be lowered and perhaps moved closer to home plate for the 2016 season. "It can be very disheartening for players to hit a ball 410 feet and have it not go out," Samson said. "We're trying to make it play more fair."

World Series ball raises $30K for Kansas batboy's memorial

LIBERAL, Kan. (AP) — The sale of a 1962 autographed World Series baseball has raised $30,000 for a memorial statue honoring the 9-year-old Kansas batboy who died when he was accidentally hit by a bat during a game.
