New UCF athletic director always had an eye on the school

The way his father remembers it, Danny White has always kept an eye on UCF.  Now he will have his chance to lead it.

The 36-year-old was introduced Thursday as UCF's new athletic director, taking over a program in transition after one of the most successful runs in its history.

He says he was lured away from the same job at Buffalo because of UCF's potential and the prospect of building something.

He isn't expected to officially start his new post until January, but says he's already begun the search for a new football coach and will meet with search consultants on Friday.

Former football coach George O'Leary announced his retirement on Oct. 25 following a 0-8 start.
