Youngest drivers rev up their battery-powered engines for Toddlerdega
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (FOX 13) - Pro Karting Experience in St. Petersburg is your spot for all things "karting," for the mighty -- and the mini.
There is one day that is devoted to toddler's battery-powered rides. Toddlerdega is held on the first Sunday of every month, and is more about family than being fast.
"It's definitely one of my favorite days of the month," explained Terry Downs, owner of Pro Karting Experience. "You won't have trouble getting the kids out of bed."
On those days, the track closes down for the youngest drivers.
"Not everyone gets to drive their powerwheels anywhere you know? It's a safe track. They can't get hurt for the most part," Downs said.
For parents like Lauren Helton, it's a time stand on the sidelines, and cheer on the kids.
"When we come out here it's fun because there are other kids. [My daughter] likes to talk and it's a great family atmostphere," Helton tells FOX 13. "We like seeing her smiling and having fun and just enjoying the company with other kids enjoying the same thing as her."
Apparently, the world of beefing up your Power Wheels is a thing, especially for parents who attend "Toddlerdega."
"We started upgrading them a little bit -- putting better motors in it, bigger batteries, kill switches in case we need to cut it if its getting a little crazy," Helton said.
Toddlerdega is held the first first Sunday of every month from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. It is $5 to race and $20 to rent a souped-up car for kids. Additional information can be found online on Pro Karting Experience.
