Woman dies after car plunges into Winter Garden pond

A 24-year-old woman died after the car she was driving plunged into a retention pond early Sunday.

The Winter Garden Police Department said they received a call about a car driving into a retention pond on Tilden Road near Tiny Road in Winter Garden.

Officials say three Winter Garden police officers entered the water in an attempt to locate any victims but were unable to locate any due to the car being in deeper depths. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the Orlando Police Department dive teams were called out to the pond to assist in the rescue effort.

Deborah Lynn Williamson was pulled from the car and pronounced dead at Florida Hospital Winter Garden shortly before 2:30 a.m.

The dive teams returned to the pond later to ensure there weren’t any other victims before a crew removed the car from the water.

The crash is still under investigation.
