Woman arrested after child found wandering

TITUSVILLE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A woman was arrested after a three year-old child under her care was found unattended and wandering near four lanes of heavy traffic in Titusville, authorities say.

A passerby first noticed the child wandering near the busy U.S. Highway 1 near parking lot of the Ace Hardware, located at 3636 S. Washington Ave. Another passerby was able to grab the child before it reached the travel lanes.

Witnesses took the child into the business and called police.  About thirty minutes after officers arrived, the caretaker was located.

Brittany Marie Jones, 20, of Titusville, was arrested on a charge of child neglect and booked into Brevard County Jail.

"The same child and caretaker were involved in a similar incident three days earlier on Garden St. in which the child was found unattended near a roadway," said Todd Hutchinson, Deputy Chief of the Titusville Police Department.  "In that case, DCF was contacted and an assessment was done by Detectives.

The child was uninjured.
