"I've been learning a little bit about this facility just because I knew I was going to come here today," the vice president said. "165 great Wisconsin employees making great American products at a good wage. This is a place that rewards dignified work. And this is a place that makes America and the whole community richer. So you guys should be proud of yourselves."

Vice President Vance hit many of the same notes that President Trump struck during the State of the Union, and talked about the economy and its impact on the American worker.

Under Joe Biden and the Democrats, the average American lost $3,000 in take-home pay. And under Donald Trump and Republicans in just one year, the average American has seen $1,700 increase in take-home pay. That is more money in your pocket," Vance said.

He later shifted to a broader critique of Democratic leadership.

"Do we want to give power back to the people who opened our border, who raised your taxes, who won't even cheer for a six year old girl who was wounded because of their bad policies? And I think our answer to that is hell no," Vance said. "We want to give power back to the people like Derek Van Orden who fight for us."

DNC Spokesperson Albert Fujii responded with the following:

"Democrats won’t stop fighting to lower Wisconsinites’ costs and fighting back against the rampant corruption of this administration."

Latest polling

By the numbers:

Forecasters at the Cook Political Report say Wisconsin's 3rd Congressional District is one of the country's 18 toss-up districts. In other words, whether Democrats or Republicans control the House next year comes down to places like this.

The latest Marquette poll finds 53% of respondents think President Trump's policies will increase inflation, while 35% say they will decrease inflation. The biggest issue for voters right now is the economy. The Marquette poll also found 70% of people polled said they are very concerned about inflation and the cost of living.

Reaction to Vance visit

What they're saying:

Mandela Barnes, Democratic candidate for Wisconsin governor:

"JD Vance has a tough job today. He’s got to look Wisconsin families in the eye and tell them this economy is working for them. He has to sell dairy farmers who are on the brink of bankruptcy onTrump’s disastrous tariffs working. He has to sell small business owners who can’t keep the doors open on billionaires getting another tax break instead.

 "Good luck with that.

"Donald Trump has governed for his billionaire donors, and has done nothing for Wisconsin families. And his lackeys like JD Vance and Tom Tiffany have been there every step of the way to rubber-stamp massive price hikes for working families of Wisconsin while lining the pockets of the ultra-wealthy.

"That’s why I’m running for Governor. JD Vance is here for a day—I’m here for good. Wisconsin doesn’t need another politician to fly in and sell us on lies. As Governor, I will fight to stand up to Trump and actually make life more affordable for the people of this state."

National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) Spokesperson Zach Bannon:

"While Democrats spent years hollowing out American industry, President Trump and Vice President Vance are rebuilding it, and Rep. Derrick Van Orden is making sure Wisconsin workers win. Thanks to Republican leadership, Wisconsin workers are finally seeing real results like bigger paychecks, lower taxes, and jobs coming back home."

AFP-WI State Director Megan Novak:

"I applaud Vice President Vance for getting to the heart of the issue on every Wisconsinite’s mind; affordability. Since the disastrous days of Bidenomics, our team continues to hear from people across the state that affordability is still top of mind. We have faith the Trump Administration will be just as successful delivering on affordability this year as it was in 2025.

"AFP-WI wants to continue that momentum at the state level here in Wisconsin. We know from our grassroots efforts that Wisconsinites want policies to alleviate the strain on their bank accounts. That’s why we’re supporting Tom Tiffany for governor and his efforts to lower property taxes and energy bills to make life more affordable in Wisconsin."
