Trash problem in New Smyrna Beach neighborhood
NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Ashley Lilje walks almost every day with her 3-year-old Kevin to pick up her 7-year old at the nearby Chisholm Elementary School in New Smyrna Beach. What used to be a nice, pretty walk has turned into an eyesore, she says.
"I'm not sure if this is coming from people who are passing through ... but everywhere I look when driving or walking I'm seeing ever ten feet or so bottles, trash paper. things everywhere."
It gets worse, she says.
"In the median, next to my house, I found a hypodermic needle that was extremely disturbing."
So she's started cleaning things up. She also started a Facebook page, hoping people around here will start cleaning up, and stop dumping stuff.
She reached out to the city to let them know, but she says it's everyone's problem.
Lilje said, "Just getting people in the community to care again and have pride in where we live because everybody here is awesome we love our community. we want others to love it as much as we do."
