Train carrying ethanol derails in Broward County

PORT EVERGLADES, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a train carrying ethanol has derailed in South Florida.

Broward Sheriff's Office Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles tells news outlets that nine of the train's 20 cars derailed Monday afternoon in an industrial area near Port Everglades. There were no injuries reported.

Jackhles says the train cars stayed upright and none of the chemicals leaked.

Officials say the friction with the tracks caused a small brush fire, which employees of a nearby warehouse put out with a fire extinguisher.

The Federal Railroad Administration is investigating the cause of the incident.
