Teen shot in Orange County
ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Orange County deputies say a teenager is recovering after being hit by a stray bullet and a search is underway for the person responsible. Investigators searched for clues after a 17-year-old boy was shot while sitting outside his home on Ridge Point Drive in Orange County's Pine Hills neighborhood.
Kathy Tomlin says deputies were looking for bullet casings outside her house. "I take my dog out here to walk, but today I didn't take him out to walk. Are you glad? Yes, it's a good thing."
Investigators say the teen was shot in the chest just before 4 o'clock this afternoon. It happened as children in this Pine Hills neighborhood were coming from school. Neighbor Elcaita Maurice says, "There's always kids going back and forth, playing around."
Deputies say it's very possible that a driver along Golf Club Parkway may have fired the shot, which is 200 yards away from the house. Maurice says, "It's shocking. Keep them inside the house." Deirdre Myers wants to move, "I'm very worried, it's an issue that's really bothering me."
Rachad Williams Jackson says, "It's sad for any child or anyone that cares about children. Its sad. Because you don't want nothing to happen to your children." As deputies try to find out who fired the shot, residents like Kathy say they'd like to see more patrols. "The neighborhood is getting sort of bad. I guess it's always been bad, but it's getting worse." Anyone with information on the shooter should call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
