Teen father arrested after standoff
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Dozens of cars lined up outside the Waterford Park subdivision for hours on Monday afternoon.
Deputies with the Orange County Sheriff's Office were not letting anyone into the neighborhood while they say a standoff was going on inside a home on Lakebrook Drive with an armed suspect, Austin Jacob Perrone.
Jerry Irwin was one of the dozens of people unable to get home. “We came home to get in our house and police said there was a gunman with a rifle and they’re not letting anyone in,” said Irwin.
Investigators say they got a call into 911 around 12:30 Monday afternoon from the suspect’s wheelchair-bound mother. Deputies say they’d been called out to the same home more than once over the weekend.
“An 18-year-old male got in a domestic altercation with an 18-year old. They are parents of a one-and-a-half-year-old child. The female ended up leaving the residence. The male refused to leave and that’s when the standoff started,” said OCSO spokesperson Jane Watrel.
Watrel says the dispute between the teen parents came to a head today. “It escalated today. There was a domestic incident kept her in the house for a little bit. He let her go. He was making threats to harm himself and others. But we were able to talk him down.”
Perrone is now charged with false imprisonment. Investigators say no one was hurt.
