Suspect on the run and one dead after violent home invasion

DELAND, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - An armed and dangerous suspect is on the run and a man is dead after a violent home invasion on Wednesday morning.

DeLand police say that there was a home invasion around 4:52 a.m. Wednesday morning on Ambrose Avenue.

One of the people living in the home, 22-year-old Michael L. Dixon, was shot in the chest and was taken to the hospital in serious condition. He later passed away. There was another person in the home as well and that person is expected to be okay.

Investigators say that they are talking to the other person in the home at the time and she may be able to help them come up with a description of the suspect who barged into the home.

The DeLand Police Department, the Edgewater Police Department, and the New Smyrna Police Department are all assisting in the search for the suspect. If anyone has any information regarding the incident and the suspect, please call the DeLand Police Department at 386-626-7400.
