Student injured after Orange County school bus slams into vehicle, officials say

A student was injured after an Orange County school bus slammed into a vehicle causing a chain reaction involving multiple cars, officials said Monday.

The Orange County school bus sat with its front-end mangled on the side of John Young Parkway. Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) says it slammed into a vehicle, leading to a chain-reaction crash.

"Everybody's bumper-to-bumper, and we're trying to move out of the way and the collision just happened," said Jim Guerrier, whose car was damaged in the crash.

The FHP says five vehicles total were damaged in the crash, including the bus. EMTs took one child on the bus, and one adult from a different vehicle, to the hospital for minor injuries.

"It was like a split second of a bunch of cars getting hit at once," said crash victim Lyanna Martinez.

The FHP says there were 40 students on the bus when it crashed. They say the driver was dealing with an unruly passenger.

Knowing how traffic is, bumper-to-bumper," Martinez said, "you just have to be alert."
