Smith, Latvala draw house challengers
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (NSF) - State Rep. David Smith, R-Winter Springs, and Rep. Chris Latvala, R-Clearwater, appear likely to face Democratic challengers as they run for re-election in 2020.
Democrat Elizabeth McCarthy opened a campaign account last week to run against Smith in Seminole County’s House District 28, according to the state Division of Elections website. Meanwhile, Largo Democrat Andrew Apted opened an account to run against Latvala in Pinellas County’s House District 67.
Also last week, West Park Democrat Jonathan Gilbert Flores became the third candidate to open an account to try to succeed outgoing Rep. Shevrin Jones, D-West Park, in Broward County’s House District 101. Flores joined fellow Democrats Brian Johnson and Marie Woodson in entering the race. Jones faces term limits next year and is running for a Senate seat.
