Sheriff: Flagler County building getting dozens of deputies sick
FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - A building is making dozens of local deputies sick in Flagler County. The federal government is being called in to get some answers.
The issue is at the Flagler County Sheriff's Office Operations Center. The building is empty right now, but a few months ago, Sheriff Rick Staly moved everyone out after employees said it was making them sick. Workers have reported symptoms like getting rashes, itching, breathing issues, memory issues, and even cancer.
Now, the CDC is now getting involved. The sheriff says they will be visiting the site next month.
Sheriff Rick Staly also said that he is doing testing on his own. He says the building used to be a hospital before the county bought it.
"I've hired a medical doctor to review the medical records of the employees that are affected and I've hired an outside consultant to look at the testing the county has done before they purchased this old hospital," Staly says.
