Push to start water taxi service connecting Volusia County to Downtown Sanford
SANFORD, Fla. (FOX 35 ORLANDO) - Whether you're going for a walk or grabbing a bite to eat, the views of Lake Monroe draw people to Downtown Sanford.
With more restaurants and businesses moving in, officials want to find a solution to the parking problems. That's why city leaders are considering the idea of a water taxi service.
Outside of Walt Disney World Resort, there are no other water taxis in Central Florida, shuttling people around. A new study from the consulting firm Neel-Schaffer lays out the plan for Sanford that would include a water taxi service to transport visitors from Volusia County across Lake Monroe to Downtown Sanford.
Officials say a water taxi may be a few years down the road, since it would require approval from state and federal agencies. The first step is getting that proposal in front of city leaders, which is scheduled to happen on August 12.
