Police say driver hit man then ran from scene

They are professionals who are used to getting into tight spaces, but on Thursday morning, a plumber from EK Coggin Plumbers was seriously injured after becoming pinned between two vehicles following a crash.  That man had to be airlifted to a hospital.

Neighbors couldn’t believe what they were seeing on Jamestown Drive in Rockledge.   First came the accident, then police began searching the neighborhood for the suspect in the crash who fled from the scene. They found him hiding in a yard.

“We can tell you the driver of the other vehicle, his license was suspended.  As far as why he hit him, we are still investigating, trying to get those answers,” said a spokesperson with the Rockledge Police Department.

Officers had to set up a perimeter around the neighborhood, because the suspect, later identified as Mark Wells, 42, of Merritt Island, bailed out of the car and took off running, they said. He was found and arrested a short time later.

Police did not immediately release the name of the victim in the crash.
