Police investigate body found in Lake Underhill

Underwater search and rescue crews trudged through the shallow areas of Lake Underhill Monday evening where police say decomposed body was discovered Monday morning.

“This is really surprising to have crime tape everywhere,” said Bess Carrasquillo, who lives nearby.

Carrasquillo who’s lived near Lake Underhill for some 20 years, says seeing police detectives and crime tape at her neighborhood lake is unsettling.

“This is definitely atypical for the area, to have this much activity,” Carrasquillo said.

Police spent all day extensively searching the lake in several boats after Florida Fish & Wildlife notified them of a decomposed body around 11:00 a.m. Monday -- based on the appearance of the body and evidence found at the scene police later deemed it a homicide.

“That’s really shocking, I’m surprised and eager to hear where it came from and why, and what happened,” Carrasquillo said.

Neighbors just hope the mystery is solved quickly so their quiet community frequented by bikers and joggers can return to normal.

“ It’s a great neighborhood, very quiet, the park is wonderful you can got walk it’s a mile and a quarter I think people are walking all the time,” Carrasquillo said.

Police have not yet identified the body, but  are asking anyone who may have been in the area of Lake Underhill and seen anything suspicious in the last 24 hours to call Crimelne at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).
