A petition found on the White House website aims to create harsher penalties towards those who disobey the red lights and stop signs of a school bus.

The petition, created on October 31st, states that children are being "injured or killed due to people running the alternating reds on school busses." It goes on to claim to claim that "individual state laws are largely ineffective and typically have no significant penalty."

The petition calls upon the President and Congress to act by signing "legislation that will keep our children safe by instituting severe penalties on [people] who choose to violate the red lights on a bus such as 30 days in jail, 90 days [driver's license] suspension, 12 points on a license, and a mandatory minimum fine of $5,000 for the first offense."

The petition so far as 2,876 signatures. It needs 97,124 more by November 30th to get a response from the White House. You can sign the petition HERE.
