OUC prepares for possible power outages

Workers at the Orlando Utilities Commission have been preparing their trucks, just in case Tropical Storm Colin hits Central Florida hard.

An OUC spokesperson says the storm could knock down trees and power lines, causing lots of power outages.
They say there is a potential for projectiles like outdoor furniture and other items.

If the winds go over 35 mph, workers will wait for them to die down and then head out. They say they are staffed heavy for Monday evening.  Tim Trudell, OUC Spokesperson says, "We want to make sure we're ready so have extra crews here just in case. Right now they're prepping their trucks, they're making sure they have all the materials that they need, we'll have additional staff in later this evening. Additional call takers as well."

OUC recommends placing your patio furniture and other items in a safe place and to remember to have a family plan just in case.  Following a power outage, unplug large appliances to protect them from a power surge and fire hazards.  Never run a generator inside your home or garage, and never plug it directly into your home's electrical system
