Ormond Beach man accused of setting fire with woman inside

Ormond Beach police said a woman safely made it out of a mobile home fire that her male roommate intentionally set while she was inside.

Police said Joseph Gerard, 57, deliberately set the fire Thursday afternoon at a home on South Nova Road after he got into an argument with the woman.

Officers said Gerard then left the scene.

Two hours later, Volusia County eputies stopped Gerard in his car near the intersection of LGPA Boulevard and Clyde Morris Boulevard.

Deputies turned him over to Ormond Beach officers, who arrested and charged him with arson of an occupied dwelling and aggravated assault.

Gerard is being held in the Volusia County Jail with no bond.
