Orlando City's Purple Friday

“It’s purple Friday, woo,” yelled one fan as she was getting ready to check out with a bag full of Orlando City merchandise.  Countless fans decked out in game day gear lined up early to do some serious shopping on Wall Street in downtown Orlando.  Doors to Orlando City Soccer Club’s tent sale opened to season ticket holders at 2 Friday afternoon, 3 PM to the general public.

Ashley Everett joined the crowd around noon saving her spot in line to be one of the first inside the sale. “It was pretty long. I was prepared. I was ready to wait in line,” said Everett.  She’s Christmas shopping for her family so she wouldn’t show us what she bought.  But, season ticket holders Chris and Bianca Watson did.  “Shoes and Christmas for everybody, the Christmas stuff is mostly for us,” said Chris Watson.  “We did throw in some Christmas for kids.”  The Watsons pulled stuff out of their big bags to show us.  “Of course a jersey, I had to get a jersey and jackets, pants, shoes, scarves.  I think everything they have in inventory, we got at least one. Hats,” said Bianca.  She said it was hard not to buy one of everything since all items in the tent are marked 50% off.  Men’s replica away jerseys are selling or $60, some hats are as low as $12 and soccer balls were marked down to $10.  A door buster bin by the front was filled with $5 t-shirts.  “Orlando City. They took over the city and now we have something to look forward to every week so we enjoy it,” said Chris Watson.  Now the couple and their kids have enough new Orlando City gear to wear something new to just about every home game next season.

The surprising thing FOX 35 discovered at the OCSC tent sale, most of the people there don’t typically take part of Black Friday shopping.  “First time! And, I’m not Black Friday shopping, I’m Purple Friday. Come on, get it right,” joked Wesley Kirk.  “For Orlando City it was well worth it,” another fan told us.

Orlando City’s tent sale will continue Saturday from 1-8pm and Sunday 12-6.  A team representative tells us they will have even more staff manning cash registers the rest of the weekend after seeing how many shoppers they got on Friday.   Orlando City will also have their street team truck on the opposite side of Wall Street where they are handing out magnets and selling Orlando Pride and Orlando City B scarves and Orlando City ugly Christmas T-shirts.
